Nottoway County operates an enhanced 911 system, which is based in the communications center of the Sheriff’s Department. This center is capable of taking emergency fire, rescue, or police calls from county locations and identifying the location where the call originates so that appropriate emergency services personnel may quickly be dispatched to the correct location.
The dispatchers in the communications center are in contact with three volunteer fire departments, two rescue squad locations, and county, town, and state law enforcement agencies.
Maintenance on the system is carried out in the County Administrator’s Office.
All expenses associated with the county’s E911 system are funded through a monthly telephone charge of $1.12 per line.
